TAPE NEUROMUSCOLARE

NEUROMUSCULAR TAPING

Description and useful advice

How it works and what it is used for.

The success of Neuromuscular Taping is proven by the large number of high-level athletes who exploit the benefits of this technique for both rehabilitative and preventive purposes.

The Kinesiology Tape reduces pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage through the microscopic lifting of the skin and while traditional bandages, most of which are non-elastic, are aimed at stiffening and limiting the functions of muscles and joints and for this reason they are able to provide support only for short periods, after which they are removed to restore circulation and allow movement rehabilitation.

Kinesiology Tape, without limiting movement or disturbing circulation, provides constant and dynamic support, protecting muscles and joints.

The part covered by the tape forms convolutions on the skin, thus increasing the interstitial space.

The pressure is gradually reduced allowing the lymphatic system to drain freely.

The result is a reduction in pressure and irritation on neural and sensory receptors, relieving pain and facilitating any rehabilitation.

The application of the tape allows you to intervene both to cure a problem or pathology already in progress, and to prevent its onset, by acting on:

· Blood lymphatic circulation: The tape promotes lymphatic flow through a simple technique: the elastic component of the Tape generates a wave-like micro-lifting of the skin, guiding the interstitial liquids into non-edematous areas through superficial lymphatic pathways.

Therefore, in case of edema, hemorrhage or fluid spills, it accelerates and promotes lymphatic drainage and blood circulation.

· Pain: this micro-lifting also attenuates the pressure of the skin and muscle tissues on the pain receptors, decreasing the neurological perception of the pain itself.

· Muscle Function: facilitates the restoration of correct muscle tension, favoring (e.g. cases of weak muscles) or inhibiting

(e.g. fatigue cramps) the contraction, depending on the application technique used.

The variation in tension is also effective for decreasing excessive muscle extension or, on the contrary, increasing it.

· Joints: regulates and improves muscle activity, allowing intervention also on the joints, assisting them in the correction and alignment phase (for example in the case of a joint dislocation due to muscle shortening).

Possible therapeutic indications

Kinesiology Tape is applied to muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relaxes muscles, supporting movement 24 hours a day.

It is non-restrictive and allows full range of motion.

Apart from the treatment of lymphedema, which involves manual lymph drainage with bandaging as a non-surgical therapy

elastic compression or the use of elastic braces, can be used for various pathologies, including:

· Treatment of sports and non-sport related muscle damage (strains, prevention of cramps, fasciitis, strain from overload, lumbago).

· Strengthening of weak muscle.

· Treatment of edema and pain management.

· Joint inflammation and stiffness.

· Muscle fatigue.

· Support for correcting postural attitude.

· After-effects of trauma.

· Tendon or joint problems (tendonitis, overload of the menisci).

· Cervical, Bursitis, Carpal Tunnel, Hand Therapy, Ligaments, Back, Osteoarthritis, Sciatica, Tendinositis Metatarsal Arch, Neck, Knee, Epicondylitis, Scapula, Achilles Tendon, etc….

General Advice

If you have never applied a tape before we recommend you read these tips in order to make your application as long-lasting and functional as possible.

1. Before applying the tape, clean the skin with degreasing means (for example alcohol).

The part of the skin on which to apply the tape must necessarily be dry, clean and without traces of grease, because otherwise the tape does not stick well and can come off sooner than necessary.

2. Locate the area where you feel muscle fatigue or pain.

If it is difficult to apply the tape alone, the support of a partner is recommended.

3. Massage the affected muscles with your hands to locate the sore part.

4. Once you have identified the sore part, relax the muscle (bending your knees, elbow, hand or other parts of the body on which you want to apply the tape).

5. Cut a piece of tape from the roll based on the length of the body part you want to apply it to.

Some applications may require multiple pieces of tape.

6. Bevel the corners with Teflon scissors coated with a non-stick layer (tape scissors).

7. Remove the backing paper approximately 3-4 cm from the tape (this is how the base is formed).

8. Stretch the muscle and attach the base to the application area or origin of the muscle and rub well to secure it. The heat of the rubbing activates the acrylic adhesive.

9. Once the base is glued you can slowly peel off the rest of the paper

support from the tape – in PreCut tapes you must first remove the support paper from one of the sections, when the first half is attached you can detach the paper from the second half and proceed with the application.

10. Depending on the bandaging technique, the bandage can be applied with or without tension.

Please keep in mind that the tape should always be spread from the base or center to the end of the tape.

11. The tape should be applied approximately 30 – 60 minutes before sporting activity and should be held down lightly, for example with a hot water bottle, for approximately one minute.

12. After taking a shower, bath or swimming, dry the tape a little by dabbing with your hands or using a hairdryer.

13. Never wrinkle the tapes, otherwise they may become unusable.

Colors :

According to the Japanese standard, there are 4 colors used: light blue, pink, black and flesh-colored.

The material of all 4 colors are the same.

According to energy theories, various colors can give or take away energy from the body.

To find the ideal color for our body, we do a kinesiological test.

The ideal color is the one that gives us the best result in the kinesiological test, that is, the one that gives energy to our body.
